Norton Security won't allow access to Yahoo Mail, virus detected in an email. What do I do?
I had this come up whenever I tried to log on to Yahoo Mail Beta. I switched back to original Yahoo mail and I can get to my email. I think it is a Yahoo! problem. the security key is like an identification number or letter, they ask you for the security key when you resetting an email for security purpose. In your yahoo account you should have an alternate e mail address.Check that e mail and maybe you would see the security key.

Maybe the thing to ask yourself is what do you want to accomplish, and what would make you feel secure. If you're trying to close an account that has financial info, how do you want them to verify you? What is reasonable?
And if nothing makes you feel safe at this point, why not have the credit card company issue you a new card with a different number?

The emails seem to be official, coming from Info@yahoo.com or administator@yahoo.com etc...They were routed to bulk mail but recently showed up in my inbox. They usually are larger files of 41 or 42k. I always delete them before opening.

Reply:Keep deleting them. Some spammmer is trying to or has used your email address. You probably sent a set of jokes you received to your friends on your email list--one of those that probably said to send it back and they used your address to establish credibility with your friends. Do not open those mails.
Yahoo will realize eventually that someone lifted your email address. Stop sending out mass mail that asks you to send them back to anyone; otherwise yahoo will suspend your account. The first messages are warnings. They then monitor your account to see if you are spamming. if they find any evidence that you willfully did that and are continuing to do so, they will suspend your account.

If you are using Internet Explorer go to [Tools] [internet Options] [Security] [Custom Level] - Look for the activeX section and select Prompt. Next time you visit that site it will ask you if you want to allow activex, just say yes.
You could also enable it carte Blanche, but you may not want to do that.

Go into your account and take out your alt email address and then save then change your password and then when you log back in you can put your alt email address back in. Then the change password notification will not be sent.

Mail Beta, and -- judging by all the other questions and answers that have started popping up on Answers in the last 5 or 6 hours -- is connected to Yahoo! Mail Beta specifically. Do a search here on Answers, and you'll find a lot more info on the current problem.
According to most of the major online anti-virus sites (and a few I hadn't even heard of), W32.Feebs spreads in two ways:
(1) Through e-mails disguised as security warnings of some sort, using random security-related names and subject lines. It gives you a log-in name and a password (for some reason I haven't figured out yet) and instructs you to open the attached file. The attached file is an .HTA file.
(2) Through files obtained from peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks (Limewire, Bearshare, torrent sites, etc). The file looks like a cracked version of one of several popular computer programs, and usually has something in the filename like "full version + crack" or something.
According to the anti-virus sites, opening one of these is the only way to be infected by this worm. Supposedly, it can't execute itself. The user has to actually attempt to run the file.
That being said, a lot of people on here are suddenly reporting this same problem today, and, in pretty much every case, it happens when they try to access Yahoo! Mail Beta (the regular Yahoo! Mail doesn't seem to have the same problem).
Also, one of the other answerers on here said that he'd talked to Yahoo! tech support, and they were working on the problem on their end. He didn't go into tons of detail, but it sounded like THEY have the virus and are currently trying to get rid of it. I don't know if that's true, because I'm reporting second hand info (so don't hold me to it), but it's worth investigating further.
From what I'm hearing, I'm hoping this is a false alarm resulting from some sort of miscommunication between Yahoo! Mail Beta and the anti-virus progs. Or that it's a problem on Yahoo's servers and not actually infecting our computers. Either way. All I know is that, if Yahoo! Beta infected my computer, I will be very angry...

Reply:I just started having that same problem about an hour or so ago as well. It (so far) only happens when I try to open Yahoo! Mail Beta, and -- judging by all the other questions and answers that have started popping up on Answers in the last 5 or 6 hours -- is connected to Yahoo! Mail Beta specifically. Do a search here on Answers, and you'll find a lot more info on the current problem.
According to most of the major online anti-virus sites (and a few I hadn't even heard of), W32.Feebs spreads in two ways:
(1) Through e-mails disguised as security warnings of some sort, using random security-related names and subject lines. It gives you a log-in name and a password (for some reason I haven't figured out yet) and instructs you to open the attached file. The attached file is an .HTA file.
(2) Through files obtained from peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks (Limewire, Bearshare, torrent sites, etc). The file looks like a cracked version of one of several popular computer programs, and usually has something in the filename like "full version + crack" or something.
According to the anti-virus sites, opening one of these is the only way to be infected by this worm. Supposedly, it can't execute itself. The user has to actually attempt to run the file.
That being said, a lot of people on here are suddenly reporting this same problem today, and, in pretty much every case, it happens when they try to access Yahoo! Mail Beta (the regular Yahoo! Mail doesn't seem to have the same problem).
Also, one of the other answerers on here said that he'd talked to Yahoo! tech support, and they were working on the problem on their end. He didn't go into tons of detail, but it sounded like THEY have the virus and are currently trying to get rid of it. I don't know if that's true, because I'm reporting second hand info (so don't hold me to it), but it's worth investigating further.
From what I'm hearing, I'm hoping this is a false alarm resulting from some sort of miscommunication between Yahoo! Mail Beta and the anti-virus progs. Or that it's a problem on Yahoo's servers and not actually infecting our computers. Either way. All I know is that, if Yahoo! Beta infected my computer, I will be very angry...
When you get the warning from Norton (which is what I have also), does it say that the infected file is in \Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\(some long string of numbers and letters), and that it can't repair this file because access to it is denied? Just wondering if we're all having the exact same problem...
Anyway, I'm going to keep digging (and scanning), and will add whatever info here I can find.

Next time, choose a security question that only has one possible answer that's easy to remember. Mother's maiden name. Father's middle name. Name of the high school where you graduated. Much harder to forget those.

I got an email stating that it was from Yahoo Inc and that I needed to download new security certificates.?
But it was in my spam folder. This was the message. "As a part of our security system Yahoo Inc. are glad to present the new set of security certificates. It makes your access to Yahoo services more comfortable, faster and secure. You will not be able to access our services without this program after 1st of May." Is this a legitimate email? If so, why did it go to my spam folder?

missing mail sent from 4 july 2006 and hard copy taken has been stolen im at a loss to explain why but this is real i am a successful writer and my work has been stolen the emails in question are to Ms Liz Rosenburg at WBR this has not happened before but the diaries I keep are continually going missing. I phoned Yahoo! yesterday, 11-28-06, and they told me that they are still working on the bugs of the Yahoo! Beta Mail The "Session Expired" issue is what they are working on at present.
Thousands are having many different problems with their mail as there is still a glitchs that Yahoo! hasn't gotten fixed yet in their new format.
This applies to almost all areas of mail (including signing in, composing, receiving, sending, attachments, photos etc.), messenger and search problems, for the last two weeks.
I found this in What's New In Mail:
We鈥檙e wrapping up a few remaining compatibility issues between Yahoo! Mail Beta and the new Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0
Until they finish wrapping up try some of the things below:

Select the link at top right to go to Yahoo!'s Home Page.
Hover over the Mail Icon under where it says (Hi, your Yahoo! id).
You should get a drop down menu with your latest emails displayed.
Select an email and click it. You then get to a new page about Shortcuts, but just select the button for Mail and it should take you to your Mail page.
It wasn't getting redirected to the shortcuts page on some servers and not going to the mail page.
This is also working for some:
Click the "Options" link in the upper right of your Mail page.
On the Options page, in the "Management" column, click on "General Preferences".
Find the "Composing E-mails" section, "Mode:", and choose "Compose messages as plain text".
Scroll to the bottom and click the "Save" button.
Now try it. Can you Compose, Reply to a message or Forward?
This is working for some also:
Make sure your screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels. Right click on your desktop, click Properties, click the "Settings" tab, left click and hold on the screen resolution bar and drag it all the way to the right, click Apply and click OK

I need help, I have not been able to get into my email address and Yahoo security says I am answering wrong.?
I have even called Yahoo, but when it comes to the question of my zipcode they say my zipcode answer is wrong. I've tried every single zipcode I can remember and none are right. I have contacted security and they say I am answering my secret question wrong. Which I really don't understand. I am going to lose my email address if something isn't done soon!!! This happens to me sometimes when I try to view my hotmail. The error says something about a security certificate. You should simply allow the certificate if you are sure that you are on the correct website.

anti-virus: adaware, spybot

Buy a copy of McAfee. Norton is as much use as a chocolate fireguard these days.

What exactly "new email" are you talking about? But regardless, No, it shouldn't effect anything. As long as it is a POP3/SMTP/IMAP type account - McAfee will scan it!

By the new e-mail, I assume you mean Yahoo's new interface. Your McAfee protects your computer and has nothing to do with web-based e-mail, unless you open an infected attachment. You'll be just fine.

I recieved several emails that are suspected to be phishing emails and I tried to send them to Yahoo's security, they asked for full headers and need me to copy the email to them not send as an attachment. I cannot find how to do this anywhere need some instructions.

Norton's Internet Security is blocking my OE email.?
Cannot access my Road Runner email through OE tools function unless Norton's Internet Security 2005 is turned off. I'm working off a notebook, instead of my PC, so can't do any email maintenance from here. Does anyone know how to fix this without removing/reinstalling Norton's? IF it won't let you open something it usually means that "something" may cause harm to your computer. If you're absolutly sure that thats not the case, then temporarily disable it until you're finished.

IF it won't let you open something it usually means that "something" may cause harm to your computer. If you're absolutly sure that thats not the case, then temporarily disable it until you're finished.

I cant get into my email either. This question is being asked a lot today, most likely one of the servers on yahoo mail is down, because some email accounts are able to be logged in while others are not. A lot of people are having thr same problem, this happened a few weeks ago and it was a glitch that got fixed in a few hours.

If you have forgotten your yahoo password and personal information its not good news and the probability is you have lost that account and need to open a new one. If there was a easy fix it would be open to abuse from hackers. the password and password recovery rules are there to protect you.

Each time I send an Email I have to complete a security set of jumbled letters. This is a damn nuisence . why?
Your email service provider does this to keep automated programs from the ability to send email. As the only way to determine the text within the image is by having a human look at it, the "bots" can not complete the transaction and are effectively blocked from using the system.

log out, uncheck the box, that says remember me on this computer or whatever, that will fix your prob.

Reply:Very simple answer. Log out of Yahoo when you have finished with the pc. When you sign in next time make sure you dont tick save password. Only a person on your pc will have access if you clicked save password.

Also, please be especially careful whenever using a "public" computer. It may have keylogging malware installed and every keystroke you enter can be recorded for potentially malicious purposes.

Reply:don't worry your browser probably used a cookie to save your username and password so that you can skip the login step and go directly to your mail. If you like to login manually just clear your cookies and set your browser to not save cookies on your computer or to not "remember you" when logging into your mailing account(s).
Reply:Only you can access it, Yahoo has saved a small file on your pc called a cookie, which contains your login details for your email so you don't have to type in your password every time. Every site on the internet does this.

I am continually being asked to create a security seal for my Yahoo and change my email - Y - i dont want to
recently I am being asked repeatedly to sign in to a Yahoo site - mail, games etc. Also it is asking me to change my email address to @ Y.com which i dont think is right. Can you stop this and cancel my Seal registration please as i dont fully understand it and dont want it .

You are most likely going to have to email your provider and explain the situation or if you don't have access to any kind of email you will probably need to call them. They will most likely ask you questions to verify that it is really you. The contact information can most likely be found on the company's website. I hope this helps!!

After installing norton internet security now can not send or receive email, any ideas?

Each firewall program is designed to block certain ports to protect your pc or server. I would recomend you contact your Premium Email Service Provider and let them know of your issue, they will tell you the specific port that they need you to change it to. It could be like port 73.

Reply:Norton is sucky. It used to be the very best antivirus program available but now it's a nuisance. A lot of people have had problems with it crashing their systems and even preventing them from starting Windows up again. I'd ditch it in favor of NOD32 or freeware programs (AVG, Spybot Search%26amp;Destroy ,Zone Alarm).

The first thing you did wrong is install "Norton's" you should have installed "AVG" it's free an comes with free Updates (why pay when you can get it for free ??). I had the same problem but just used "AVG" and it all worked fine. Hope this helps.
